It is by far the best OS tutorial site I've ever visited, and I don't think it's been discontinued. Mike is pretty busy, so updates take a while.

Usually there will be a week of no one posting, then a week of a lot of posts, then back to a no posts, etc.

Wow is alive... I thought I'm was the only one to visit this place... heheh I'm just kidding...
You are absolutely right about Mike... but since there wasn't any kind of post in weeks, I thought that was dead...
normally there are someone that make the thing more interactive... normally is the visitors themselves...

Without this site, my kernel would still be a big messy pile of assembly. I never even thought it was possible to have MSVC compile to straight binary.

Hello,

The series is still active :) - another chapter is due to release in about 2-3 weeks. Sorry for lack of updates; the reason for the longevity is due to lack of time - going to be very busy next week.

However I am considering splitting the next chapter into two. One chapter can focus on PE parsing, while the other on OS loaders. With this, we can provide more in depth information on both topics - and the OS loader chapter can implement single tasking. This is the current direction, anyways; any suggestions are always welcome.

What about the Chapter 22 update? There are some things in that chapter that causes the Chapter 23 demo to crash on my VM...

personally, I believe that the current format as the most appropriate. It's simple, it's "along the way", it's interactive... however, a simple touch on multitask, graphics, PCI, HD, etc. would make it even better...

Mike, I have an open issue on your post "Re: Chapter 23 Demo Release"... can you give me a clue? (Thanks)

No, it's not. Although activity has been exceptionally low in the past few months.

The last post in this thread was, indeed, in 2010, but other threads have seen more recent activity.
It's just that we're basically all waiting for Mike to add the next chapter.

Hello,

Indeed the series has slowed down significantly due to work on other projects and lack of time. Apologies for that. The next chapter is coming a long nicely and may be up for review in 2-3 days. Current topics include: Processes, threads, tasks, overview of processes and program files (sections, symbolic information, how they work with the operating system or executive); process management, scheduling, and possibly a little on runtime linking and dynamic loading. Still needs code samples though and a demo.

Chapters 24-25 I think marks a milestone for the series so want the chapter to be as complete and informative as possible while still being easy to read and with a nice demo.

Hello,
Just wondering(no pressure) how is it getting along? I'm really curious to chapter 24 :)
