Booting from Flash Drive

Post by kweicht » Sat Feb 14, 2009 2:48 am

Sorry if this has been asked before, but can anyone know if/how I can boot the OS from a flash drive? I just built a new computer and decided not to get a floppy drive, but I want to run this on real hardware. Thanks in advance.

Hello,

The current system should already be bootable on a flash drive. Keep in mind however that not all BIOS's support booting from USB.

OK, thanks. Would you happen to know of any instructions to tell me how to do it?

You can use a program such as Rawwrite to write an image file to a USB drive. To create the image file, you can use alot of different tools, including VFD which is encouraged to be use throughout the series.

If you are looking for instructions on how to enable your computer to boot from USB, we will be needing to know computer specs. More specifically, if its an OEM machine, please tell us your computer type and model. If it is not, we may need to know your motherboard type.

Keep in mind that USB booting is not very well supported. That is, alot of systems do not support it.
